It began several years ago. We didn't focus on keeping our organization fit, and it showed. Our company suffered from bloated bureaucracy and high expenses. We paid expensive consultants to lead restructuring projects, but then, like a fad diet, the company returned to its old bloated self.
So, we did something about it. We started a company and started solving the problem the proper way. We developed a software service for analyzing and optimizing organizational structures. We served a large global asset management firm, an international insurance company, a global heavy equipment corporation, and several smaller firms.
Over time our business became more management consulting than a software as a service, and eventually we moved on to other things. However, our Spans & Layers Handbook remains popular and interest in spans & layers analysis continues.
